Boiling Water

Boiling water

Aim:

At school to day I am going to test out how long it takes to boil water. I put a stopwatch on.To make this happen,

Method:

You will need : A pot. a bunsen burner, heat mat, and a tripod. If you are making it in a beaker you will need the same things but you will need one extra thing a, Gauze mat. I tried with one cup of water so it wouldn't take as long. When I wrote this it wasn't even near boiling but it wasn't going to be far off.But it has been on the heat for 18m and 30secs.

Findings:

The final time it took to boil:40mins

Sherbet

Sherbet
1 cup Icing Sugar
2 Tbsp of powdered drink crystals (e.g. Refresh)
1 1/2 tsp citric acid
1 1/2 tsp tartaric acid
1 tsp baking soda
6 lollipops

Method: Put all ingredients, except the lollipops, into a bowl and mix thoroughly. Spoon into little cellophane bags, insert a lollipop in each bag and seal securely.
To eat, lick the lollipop and dip it into the sherbet.

When you put the sherbet on your tongue, the saliva in your mouth causes the citric acid crystals to dissolve. The citric acid reacts with the bicarbonate of soda and produces carbon dioxide gas. ... You Could end up with a lot of carbon dioxide in your stomach, which could be uncomfortable!

Hokey pokey disappointment

Hokey pokey and what happened. So it didn't work out we tried to to do it in 5 minutes but it was grainy. We accidentally doubled the mixture so it would of taken 10 minutes to devolve. The baking soda was doubled up and it still didn't foam up it was quite a disappointment. It was a lesson for next time I am making it again on Wednesday hopefully it works out well.
Thank you
Talia

Artist Statement

I have but all the things I like on my paper design. These are things I have put on it, Netball,Maori Culture, and Avanth family font.I hope when I start lino cutting it will look good.I had trouble doing my sketch because I didn't know what to draw but I finally got my final drawing. So soon I can start cutting but I have to learn first.I just want to show who I truly am in my lino cutting.I enjoyed creating my piece because I wanted to see my abilities in my drawing and the sizing of my drawing so it can fit on the lino.I have learned the different types of tools and what we use.

Answer these questions about your experiment:
  1. What is the best number of fins?2
  2. What happens to the water rocket if you do not have fins? They dont fly as well.
  3. What is the best nose shape? detach mental triangle
  4. What happens if you have a flat nose shape?the air doesn't catch on the water rocket as well.
  5. Does ballast at the nose make any difference?yes it makes it fly higher.
  6. What is the right amount of water?1/3
  7. Explain what happens if you have too much water? It makes it heaver
  8. What is pushing the rocket to make it go faster?air out of a bike pump.
  9. Name the 4 forces that effect the water rockets flight?gravity, thrust, drag, lift
  10. What keeps the rocket moving once the water has all come out?Air

Flight

Brainstorm: What are the forces acting on an aircraft?
  1.   Drag
  2.   Lift
  3.   Gravity/Weight
  4.  Thrust

How can we overcome some of these forces?

Force
Their effect on a plane
How to overcome them?
Gravity / Weight
Makes it go downBy making things lighter
Drag
Makes it go slowerSteamline
Lift
Makes it go upBy making things lighter
Thrust
Makes it go fowardPowerful engine.

Building a light aircraft

Aim: To build an aircraft made of material that is best suited for flight using the 4 forces.

Hypotheis: I think that by..

Planes

Aim: To look at the 4 main forces of flying and how these can be overcome.

Hypothesis: I think that our plane was very heavy.

Method: Working in pairs you are going to make a paper wing and experiment with it.

  1. Make a paper wing out of A4 paper
  2. On the field you will need to record and observe how 5 different changes affect the way it flies.

Plane type
How does it behave?
Time ( secs)
Paper sheet, drop
It drops to the ground.

1s 45ms
Paper with fold down middle, drop
It wobbled to the ground

1s 71ms
Paper with fold and 1 paper clip, drop
It just went down on to the ground.

1s 95ms
Fold, 2 clips, rudder, drop

It swayed until it touch the ground.
1s 69ms
Fold, 2 clips, rudder throw
it went straight and slowly when down the it touched the floor.

3s 20ms

Findings:
With unfolded paper  it just dropped to the ground it took 1s 45 it was the fasted time because it was lighter. When we folded it it got heaver and the timer went longer. Then we folded it 6 times and add a paper clip. Then we added 2 paper clips and it made the timer go slower as you can see.

Atmosphere

Image result for AtmosphereThe biosphere also known as the ecosphere, is the worldwide sum of all ecosystems. It can also be termed the zone of life on Earth, a closed system, and largely self-regulating.

The hydrosphere is the combined mass of water found on, under, and above the surface of a planet, minor planet or natural satellite.

Image result for lithosphereLithosphere is the rigid, outermost shell of a terrestrial-type planet, or natural satellite, that is defined by its rigid mechanical properties.

Image result for biosphereAn atmosphere is a layer or a set of layers of gases surrounding a planet or other material body, that is held in place by the gravity of that body.

  1. How much of the earth is made up by hydrosphere? 70%
  2. How much of the earth is made up by lithosphere / ground?30%
  3. What is the atmosphere made up of?78%nitrogen/21% oxygen

Waihanga Tuhinga by Talia and Shontelle

Waihanga Tuhinga by Talia and Shontelle Takwiriwiri pungerungeru nga Mowhiti Hey my name is Talia and my name is Shontelle and together we are the screws of the arms on the glasses. We get up to trouble at nightfall. We are really naughty screws because we jump out at night and start scratching the lenses and also the arms of the glasses.I think they get really cross at us rude screws. The glasses got put into the case and then got put into the cupboards. We start fighting badly as we escape through. We creeped throw the gap and we didn't realise that the drain was underneath our feet.We slipped through the gap of the drain as we yelped for help.We finally touch the ground of the drain and we get washed up into the sewer. It does not smell very nice down there. We slowly travelled down and around the sewer and we exit down to the bottom deck of the sewers. As we both said farewell I loved our times together even though they weren't the best..That was the end of the two screws Talia and Shontelle R.I.P.

Ⓗⓐⓝⓓⓢ ⓞⓝ ⓕⓘⓡⓔ

Aim: To listen to the teacher instructions while using safe practice in the science lab.

Hypothesis:I thought that the bubble were just water and dish washing detergent but it was actually gas from the gas tap and it was also dishwasher detergent. I thought it would go on your hands and then use the liter to light it up and I already knew that you take your hand apart when it gets to hot on your hands. That's what I thought

Equipment

  1. Bunsen Burner tube
  2. Das
  3. Detergent
  4. Water

Method:

  1. Put some water in to a container and squirt in some detergent.
  2. Connect the gas hose to the taps and make gas bubbles in the water.
  3. Rub cold water on your hands, wrists, and just before you elbows.
  4. Scoop up bubbles in the container into the palm of your cupped hands.
  5. Stand with your hands reaching out in front of you, with your palms and bubbles facing up.
  6.  Light your hands.
  7. DONT TRY THIS AT HOME
Safety: If you want to stop the fire you can open your palms and drop the fire to the floor.
Results: the hands of the person burst into flames without burning their hands.

Discussion: The gas in the bubbles burned.

Conclusion: The safety glasses and equipment like water on your wrists stopped anyone from getting burnt. By listening to the teachers instructions the method was clear.
